NEWS AND EVENTS
Dear Friends:
We had so much fun seeing you on Saturday September 20th at Deer Lakes Park in Tarentum, PA for our annual PIGNIC!

We had 225+ human attendees (+ more volunteers!) and 30+ guinea pigs and we raised over $4,000 for Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue to keep the doors open- thank you!!!
Please remember to support our generous sponsors listed on the banner at the PIGNIC, who were a vital part of our success! To all the sponsors, thank you so much for your generous donations!!! Wheek Care looks forward to partnering with you again next year!!!
A special thanks to Megan Shinn and her wonderful crew from CBS / KDKA who recently did a beautiful news story on Wheek Care that can be found at https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/wheek-care-guinea-pig-rescue/

We enjoyed our day with face painting, crafts, merchandise sales, food, raffle, and of course guinea pigs! We hope you had fun this year and for those who couldn't make it, we hope to see you next year!
Save the date friends.

As of July 1 2025, Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue is only accepting emergency surrenders.
Because of the extremely high numbers of surrender request, all of our cages are way over capacity. We will bring in non-emergency surrenders as space permits. The current wait time for non-emergency surrenders is 6 to 7 months. One thing we can offer is doing a Courtesy post for Petfinder. Contact Wheek Care for the specific instructions for doing a courtesy post. If you need pellets, hay or bedding to get you through an emergency, please email us at wheekcare2017@gmail.com.

We operate by APPOINTMENT ONLY seven days a week. To make an appointment to adopt, board or surrender (as available), please email us at wheekcare2017@gmail.com. Please DO NOT call or text. Any person adopting from Wheek Care must complete and return a signed Adoption application.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF GUINEA PIGS!
Guinea pigs make wonderful family pets. They ARE NOT beginner pets or a pet to teach a child responsibility. They are social animals and should always have a friend or 2. With proper food, cage size and medical care by an exotics vet, guinea pigs can live a long (at least 5 to 8 years) and happy life.
To learn more, please read our piggie information packet (under “Documents” tab). Wheek Care is always willing to help you decide if guinea pigs are the perfect fit for your family.
For piggie emergencies, please TEXT 724.448.21017 with your name, the piggie’s name and age and what the emergency is. Your text will be answered as quickly as possible. This phone line is monitored 24/7.
